Blind Repairs
Snapped cords, a mechanism that's stopped catching, or a blind that came down for a repaint or a move — restrung, repaired and re-fitted.
Book a repairA palette that belongs on this block.
Blockout comfort with a Melrose-appropriate palette — walnut furniture, soft chalk-pink accents, total darkness on demand.
A folding-arm awning turns a west-facing balcony back into usable space through the hottest part of the day.
Timber slats and ladder tape in the same petrol-and-walnut register as the rest of the apartment — nothing looks bolted on.
Built on glass, and on a piazza.
Melrose Arch was designed around glass — full-height panels facing the piazza, the pool deck or the street. That single fact drives almost every shading decision we make here.
Floor-to-ceiling by design
Full-height glazing means heat and glare move through these rooms exactly as fast as the light does — sunscreen or blockout fabric matched to the exact aspect matters more than the brand of blind.
Two directions of privacy
At night, a lit glass wall reads both ways. Day/night bands or a proper blockout option protect a room's privacy without giving up the outlook you paid for.
Body corporate matters
Sectional-title schemes generally set rules on what's visible from outside. We colour-match fascias, fabrics and headrails so a block reads as one clean facade, not a dozen different opinions.
Older Melrose, different brief
A few streets over, the original Melrose and Melrose North sit under established gardens in freestanding houses — bigger rooms, less glass-on-glass heat, more about softening a space than fighting the sun.
The Melrose Glass & Oak Dossier
We wrote down what we've learned about the light on this patch: how the sun crosses Melrose and Melrose Arch by season, what Marshall's oaks do and don't do about it, what we'd fit on each elevation — and the honest catch with every one of those answers. Plus the five things the tape measure decides, not the Dossier.

Free in-home measure
A consultant visits with samples, measures every opening precisely and talks through fabric, openness and motorisation for that specific room.
Written quote
A clear, itemised quote per window — options laid out, no guessing, no surprises. Before that visit, a bracket to think in: everything on this site falls between R1,000 and R7,500 per square metre installed, a manual roller at the low end and a motorised awning over a terrace at the high one. Small windows carry a minimum charge, and the number that counts is written after the measure.
Made & fitted
Made to order and professionally installed — level, tested, with a quick demo on how everything operates.
The service, without the sales pitch
Melrose Blinds is a made-to-measure window shading service covering Melrose and Melrose Arch and the suburbs beside them — Birdhaven, Dunkeld, Houghton Estate and Illovo. Roller blinds, day/night blinds, motorised systems and folding-arm awnings are each made for one opening in one apartment or house. In buildings where the glass runs floor to ceiling and the facade has to read as one line, nothing off a shelf fits properly anyway.
A job runs the same way every time. You enquire by chat, call or the form; one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange a free in-home measure. On the visit every opening is measured precisely and fabric, openness and control are chosen for that particular room's light, with samples on the table. The quote that follows is written and itemised window by window. When you approve it the work is manufactured to those measurements and installed level and tested, with a quick demonstration of how it all operates.
Your contact details exist on our side so that the call-back can happen, and POPIA governs how they are held.
Melrose, Melrose Arch, and the streets around it.
Honest answers, before you commit to anything.
Do you fit blinds in Melrose Arch's sectional-title apartments?
Yes — most of our Melrose Arch work is inside sectional-title blocks. We check body corporate rules on visible colours and fascias before we quote, so what goes up matches what's approved.
What's the real difference between chain-operated and motorised blinds on a glass wall?
Chain blinds are simpler and cheaper per window, but a full wall of glass usually means several linked blinds — motorised versions can be grouped to one remote or app button, with no cord to manage on a tall drop.
Can I keep the skyline view and still cut the afternoon glare?
A 3–5% openness sunscreen fabric is the usual answer — it cuts UV and most of the heat while keeping the view soft rather than blocked out. For full glare control at certain times of day, we pair it with a second blockout roller.
Are your blinds safe around children?
Yes. Chain and cord tensioners are fitted as standard, and we recommend cordless or motorised operation for any nursery or kids' room — ask your consultant about child-safe controls at the measure.
How does the free measure and quote actually work?
An expert consultant visits with fabric samples, measures every window precisely, and talks you through the options for that room's light and privacy. You get a written, itemised quote — no pressure to decide on the spot.
Will a folding-arm awning survive a Highveld storm on my balcony?
It's a shade product, not a storm product — for exposed balconies we recommend a motorised awning with a wind sensor, which retracts automatically before gusts get dangerous.
